Marlon "Think"

My name is Marlon. Let me tell you a little bit about me. I am usually hanging out in the Library at Lightglider Academy. I am from the United States and I love doing two things - reading books and lifting weights. It’s important to exercise the mind and the body. I am usually the more brainy and strategic of the Academy leaders. I think and study hard on any new idea before believing it or acting on it. That’s why I was the last to join the Academy leaders. I had to make sure that rescuing Gliddles and clearing blight were the right things to do. Usually when we are thinking of others before ourselves, it is the right thing to do. But I had to make sure.

I am passionate about finding the truth. We are in a world filled with many ideas competing for our attention. Ideas are either helpful to others and to the world, or they are hurtful.

The Bible is our greatest source of truth. Not only does it teach us how to live, but it tells the story of Jesus, the author of our faith. I encourage all Lightgliders to search hard for truth and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Discovering truth is one of life’s greatest adventures!

Luke 2:52 Bible Study

"Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and all the people." - Luke 2:52 (NLT)

This week you were introduced to Marlon. His key word is “Think.” Marlon takes his studies very seriously. He is passionate about finding the truth, so when he reads verses like this one, he gets excited because Jesus took His studies seriously too! It’s important to Marlon to grow in wisdom, especially by reading and studying his Bible - the source of truth!

How does the Bible make you think about life’s most important questions?

Nisha "Serve"

My name is Nisha. I am one of the “quieter” Lightgliders. You may not notice me and that is exactly the way I like to help!

I was born and raised in India. Being the oldest of seven kids, I was given a lot of responsibility with my brothers and sisters. They needed me to be consistent and caring. Do you have siblings? Having little brothers and sisters has taught me a lot about what it means to give without expecting much in return.

I came to Lightglider Academy a bit nervous. There were so many big personalities and talented people here. Bryce is courageous. Tambika is administrative. Marlon is a genius. I didn’t know what I had to offer. One day Tova thanked me for always doing the little things that seem to go unnoticed. She said that these were the things that helped others be more effective. Things like collecting boosts in my treehouse and giving them away to new Lightgliders!

I guess I am learning that even the little things can make a big difference. It brings me joy to serve. Putting the needs of others before my own helps me to be humble and encourage others all at the same time. Those who serve are the most impactful leaders!

Mark 10:43 Bible Study

"But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must first be your servant..." - Mark 10:43 (NLT)

Nisha’s key word is “Serve.” She loves to serve others. She understands that sometimes, the most influential person is the one who serves and encourages others in their strengths.  So, she puts others needs before her own!  This verse helps Nisha know that serving others is just as important as going on adventures like Bryce does or running the Academy like Tambika does! Helping others shine is a great example of being a leader.

Why did Jesus say that to be a leader you must first be a servant?

Kwan "Help"

Hi, I’m Kwan. I was born and raised in South Korea. I have always been curious and inventive. And I like to work behind the scenes. My biggest passion at Lightglider Academy is to figure out the blight problem. That dark ooze is destroying the land and taking away its beauty and purpose. Have you seen it yet on one of your missions? Thankfully, we can use our light to clear the blight. But, I want to find a permanent solution. That is my dream.

I usually hang out in the Innovation Lab. I work closely with the Gliddles to invent things that can help -- better gliders, new technologies, stuff like that. To solve problems, we need to be creative and we need to work together!

I don’t like to be the center of attention but that doesn’t mean I can’t make a powerful impact on the world. I work behind the scenes to help Tambika run the Academy, assist Bryce on missions, and support each Lightglider in our mission to Respect, Rescue and Restore. I have discovered how to use my unique gifts to help others.

Galatians 5:13 Bible Study

"For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love." - Galatians 5:13 (NLT)

This week we get to hear from Kwan! Kwan is someone who knows the importance and impact of being a ‘behind-the-scenes’ guy. He doesn’t look to be the center of attention. He knows that he can make a great impact doing all the things that are necessary but may not be even noticed. He fixes gliders. He creates new tech for Yonders missions. He works to ensure that his fellow Lightgliders are successful. He does it with excellence and with a smile on his face. Kwan’s word is “Help” because he is a source of help wherever he goes.

He doesn’t look for the applause of others because he knows that he works for an audience of One.  Therefore, he uses his gifts to serve others and to bring glory to God!

How do you “use your freedom to serve one another in love?”

Tambika "Lead"

Jabari yako rafiki! That means ‘How are you my friend?’ in Swahili. I’m Tambika. I manage Lightglider Academy while the Professor is away. Running this place isn’t easy, but it is rewarding. I get to meet all the new Lightgliders when they arrive in the Courtyard. That is a fun part of my job! I even get to send you on your first mission to the Yonders.

I was born and raised in Tanzania. Do you know where that is? It is a beautiful country in Africa. Growing up, I always looked for leadership positions in my school and community. I love to serve others through organization. I love plans. I love calendars. I love details. And, all of these things are important at Lightglider Academy. Otherwise, everything would be more chaotic than it already is!

My desire is for you to look for opportunities to be a servant leader. We need people in this world with all types of gifts and talents. No matter how you are gifted, always remember that above all else, being a leader means serving others first.

Romans 12:8 Bible Study

"If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly." - Romans 12:8 (NLT)

Our featured leader this week is Tambika! She loves looking for opportunities to lead those around her, which is why the word used to describe her uniqueness is “Lead.” But Tambika also understands that to truly be a leader, she must serve others before herself.

This verse helps Tambika, and all of us, know that we all have gifts that God has given us. But God doesn’t just give us gifts so that we can enjoy our own success. He blesses us with talents and abilities so that we can use them for the good of those around us.

What gifts do you have and how are you using them?

Tinker Tech!

The Lightglider leaders need you! When we’re in the Yonders, one of our goals is to defeat the Machines in order to rescue gliddles and restore the land! In order to do that, we are always looking to build new tech to help us battle. In Tinker Tech, we need you to build different kinds of tech out of the parts available to help in this mission!

April 15, 2018

Bryce "Go"

Hey team. I just got back from the Yonders and it was crazy! I barely made it. I still can’t figure out why the Machines keep capturing Gliddles. It really bothers me.

Anyway, I’m Bryce. Maybe you know that by now. I was the first leader at Lightglider Academy. I came here from Australia, and I never looked back. I love adventure. I love taking risks. I love going into the Yonders. I love battling Machines. And I love rescuing Gliddles.

Some of Jesus’ last words to His disciples were to “Go!” Go be a friend to everyone you meet. Go tell them about Jesus. Go look for ways to make an impact. Living for something greater than yourself is the secret to living a life of purpose. And, when you do this, life becomes the greatest adventure ever!

~ Bryce

Mark 16:15 Bible Study

“And then he told them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.’” - Mark 16:15 (NLT)

This week we learn more about Bryce and his love for adventure. Bryce’s love for adventure is driven by this commandment that Jesus gives to his disciples to “Go into all the world...” That is why the word used to describe Bryce’s uniqueness is “Go!” Like Bryce, we can go share the truth of Jesus and his love for us with our friends. After all, if the gospel is the best news in the world, why wouldn’t we want everyone to know about it?

What are ways share the Good News of Jesus?

Role Models

It is helpful to have people we can look up to who can serve as an example to us. This week we are starting a new unit learning about our Lightglider leaders in the Academy! We’ll get to know Bryce, Tambika, Kwan, NIsha, Marlon, Tova, and Santiago. We’ll learn a bit about each of their stories and how they were uniquely made to shine. You have a story too! You were uniquely made to shine.

Hebrews 13:7 Bible Study

“Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith.” - Hebrews 13:7 (NLT)

It is helpful to have people to look up to, who can show us what it means to shine. This passage tells us that we need to remember what we have been taught by wise people in our lives and should follow their example of faith. We grow in our relationship with Jesus by following what our role models in the faith have taught us!

Who do you look up to who can show you how to walk with God?

April 1, 2018

One of the five values of a Lightglider is love. We value love because it motivates us to respect each other, rescue the Gliddles, and restore the land. Love is our motivator.

When we love, we put the needs of others ahead of our own. Love comes in many forms, such as words of encouragement, acts of service, gifts, hugs, meaningful conversations, or just being there for another. Love energizes any atmosphere. Love is a pathway to joy and healing. Lightgliders were made to shine. Love is how we do it.

PS - Show love to your fellow Lightgliders this week by sending encouraging Postcards to brighten up their day!

John 13:34-35 Bible Study

“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” - John 13:34-35 (NLT)

This week’s Lightglider value is love. In this passage, Jesus tells us to love those around us the way He has loved us. To love others means to choose to put their needs ahead of your own. Our biggest need is to be forever forgiven from the sickness that is our sin and selfishness. Jesus knew this, and paid for our sin at the cross. This was the ultimate act of love because Jesus gave up His life so that we could live.  With Jesus as our example, we can love others by identifying their needs and looking for ways to serve. Life becomes an incredible adventure as we do this.

What are the needs of the people around you?

Happy Easter Week Lightgliders! In Lightglider Academy, we go on rescue missions out into the Yonders every day. But at Easter, we are reminded of the greatest rescue mission of all time. From the beginning of creation, God had a plan to rescue the world from sin and brokenness. That plan was Jesus. At the cross, Jesus lay down His life for our sins, so that we could be forgiven and live forever. And on Easter Sunday, God raised Jesus back to life. What a miracle!

Luke 24:2-3 Bible Study

“But very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus.” - Luke 24:1-3 (NLT)

This week we look forward to Easter Sunday - the day that Christians all over the world celebrate Jesus Christ rising from the grave! We call this the resurrection. This historical event is what sets Christianity apart from all other religions. It is the foundation for Christian faith and hope. When Jesus rose from the grave, he defeated sin and death. This ultimate act of love saves us from our sin, rescues us from brokenness, and gives us new life!

When the women showed up at the tomb they found it empty, just as Jesus said it would be. We look forward to the day he returns and restores us fully, just as he said he would!

What is the resurrection so important?

This week we are learning about the Lightglider value of hope. To live with hope means to look to the future with the belief that good things are coming.

This is tough to do sometimes, especially if the circumstances around us are difficult. But, trust me on this, hope is invigorating. It is electrifying. It is powerful! When we live with hope, we give hope to others. And, like a spark, the fire of hope spreads and the future actually begins to look brighter and brighter. Think of the Gliddles. Just knowing that Lightgliders are out there gives them hope that the future will be bright. This is the power of hope.

I try to wake up each day with hope--with an expectation that the day will be new, exciting, and meaningful. I'm telling you, choosing to live with hope makes a difference!

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 Bible Study

“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.” - 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

To live with hope means to believe that the future will get brighter no matter how hard things are right now. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, rose from the grave, and promises to return to restore this broken world. Because of this, we always have reason to live with hope. Jesus is our hope!

How did God give us a wonderful hope?

March 11, 2018

This week we are learning about the Lightglider value of confidence. To be confident means to be secure in yourself, and it comes from a strong belief that you are valuable. Do you know how valuable you are? Well, let me remind you!

A Lightglider’s confidence does not come from abilities, friends, or moral performance. It comes from God’s never changing love for us! Living with confidence is important because it gives us courage and boldness to be a light in dark places, to stand up for what is right, and to talk to God when we’ve made a mistake.

We need confidence to stand up to the Machines and rescue the Gliddles. We need confidence to create beautiful spaces for Gliddles to go and live and thrive. We need confidence to make new friends at the Academy and encourage them in their missions. Remembering this value will help you in so many ways not only inside Lightgliders, but in your life as well.

Ephesians 3:12 Bible Study

"Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence. So please don’t lose heart…" - Ephesians 3:12-13 NLT

You are so valuable to God that He sent Jesus to die on the cross for you. Do you realize what this means? It means that you never have to question your value. You are greatly loved. You have a strong reason to be confident and to shine your light into the world. Never forget how valuable you are. You always have a reason to be confident because of what Christ did for you.

Where does your confidence come from?

To live with purpose means to live every day with the belief that your life matters and that you can make a difference.

Here at Lightglider Academy, we rescue Gliddles, clear the blight, and seek to help others any way we can. The whole world is in need and we were all uniquely created to make an impact.

So what do you want to do with this gift of life you’ve been given? You have the opportunity every day to make a positive impact on the world in the ways that you respect, love, and serve those around you. You have been created with great purpose.

Ephesians 2:8-10 Bible Study

"God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." - Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT

God gives us salvation, not because we have earned it, but because He loves us. As this passage says, we can have great purpose simply because of who God made us to be.

But God didn’t just create us as His masterpiece just to look at us. He created us so that we can do the good things He planned for us even before we were born! God’s plan always starts with loving Him and then spreads out to loving and serving others in the world.

According to this passage, why did God create us?

February 19, 2018

Matthew 7:17-18 Bible Study

"A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions." - Matthew 7:17-18, 20 NLT

In this passage, we can compare our lives to the trees. If we develop good values on the inside of us, we will exhibit good lives through our actions. This is just like a good tree producing good fruit.

As we think about and pursue the values of purpose, hope, and love, it will impact the way we interact with others and with the world. It will impact each day of our lives.

Five Values

Your values are the principles that guide your decisions and behaviors. Do you know what your values are?  What your family’s values are? What your school’s values are?

Well, we Lightgliders have five core values that impact everything we do. They are:

  1. Purpose
  2. Humility
  3. Confidence
  4. Hope
  5. Love

These are the values that we talk about in Lightglider Academy. You’ll hear about them often. We want them to be the driving force behind our missions and adventures. You may be wondering where they came from. Stick around Lightgliders and you’re sure to find out!

February 11, 2018

Lightgliders work to restore brokenness in the world as a signpost of what God will do one day in the future. A signpost is like a great big billboard telling everyone who passes by what they can look forward to. When we restore the Yonders from the blight and bring back its beauty and purpose, we are giving the world a glimpse of what is coming when the blight problem will be fixed for good.

We can restore the world around us, too, by thinking of the needs of others and the world around us.  When we act with faith, hope and love, we are offering people a glimpse of what is to come when God transforms the world for good.

Learn more in this week’s Spark - The Goal to Restore! Then check out LGTV - Blight Tutorial for some insider information how how to restore the Yonders and clear the Blight!

Acts 3:19-21 Bible Study

"Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah. For he must remain in heaven until the time for the final restoration of all things, as God promised long ago through his holy prophets." - Acts 3:19-21 NLT

When God created the world, he didn’t want there to be pain, sadness and evil but it came anyway. Thankfully, God has rescued us through Jesus, and now He promises to restore all things back to perfection. Even though the world isn’t perfect now, God is slowly changing hearts from bad to good, dark to light, broken to healed. We see this in our own lives as we follow God’s teachings and love others more than we love ourselves. And, one day, God will restore this world fully.

Based on the Scripture, who will come at the final restoration?

February 4, 2018

As Lightgliders, we have the awesome privilege of rescuing Gliddles from danger. We go out into the Yonders to rescue them from the toxic blight and control of the Machines.

When we rescue other from difficult situations, we are pointing to what God has done for us.  He sent Jesus to rescue us from the most dangerous situation, a life of sin and selfishness. Just as we rescue Gliddles from things that harm them, we need to be rescued from the sin that separates us from God. The Gliddles can’t rescue themselves and neither can we. We will never be perfect, but Jesus came to be perfect for us and to rescue us from our sin.

February 4, 2018

Galatians 1:3-5 Bible Study

"May God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen." - Galatians 1:3-5 NLT

Because of our rebellion against a holy God, we are in need of a rescue. A rebellion is when people fight against the leader in charge. God created us to be in relationship with Him, but through our sin we rebel against Him every day. This damages our hearts and it hurts others as well. We cannot rescue ourselves. We can never be perfect the way God created us to be. But there is good news! God in his great love sent Jesus to rescue us! Jesus came to stop the hurt and the pain and to bring us back into relationship with God.

What does this passage say that we have been rescued from?

January 28, 2018

Lightgliders seek to show respect in two ways -- for themselves and for each other. When we respect, we are acknowledging worth. Because we were created by God in His image, you and everyone you meet is worthy of respect. We show respect in the way we treat people. Whether it’s your best friend or someone you don’t get along with very well, choosing to respect is a way to honor God.

Don’t miss this week’s Gliddle Mission: Respect! Watch it today!

January 28, 2018

Romans 12:9-11 Bible Study

"Don’t just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically." - Romans 12:9-11 (NLT)

Words like ‘respect’ can be hard to understand sometimes.  We know we need to respect others, but how do we do it? In this passage, Paul gives examples of ways we can show respect to one another. By loving, honoring, serving, encouraging, and doing the right thing in situations, we are showing respect to others and to ourselves.

Based on this passage, how can you show respect to the people in your life?

Three Goals

Setting goals is important because goals give us something to strive for. They help keep our lives on track and guide how we spend our time. When we set a goal, we are committing each day to think and act in ways that will help us reach it. Lightgliders live with great purpose because we have three specific goals: RESPECT, RESCUE, and RESTORE.

Over the next three weeks we will learn about each of these goals and how they help us in our daily lives.

Philippians 3:12-14 Bible Study

"I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us." - Philippians 3:12-14 (NLT)

The author of this passage, Paul, has two goals for himself. The first goal is, “to press on to possess Christ Jesus”, which means that even when times are hard, Paul wants a relationship with Jesus. His second goal is, “to forget the past and look forward to the future that he has in Jesus.” Paul knows that focusing too much on the past will not help him to see God’s plan for his life, so he seeks to always be looking towards a future hope. Paul knows that setting these goals will lead him to the ultimate prize, which is God!

What goals can you set that will help you grow in your relationship with Jesus?

January 14, 2018

Ephesians 5:1-2 Bible Study

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

- Ephesians 5:1-2 NLT

Our lives are grand stories. This passage was written to help us live those grand stories in a way that brings honor and glory to God.

What are ways to follow the example of Christ?

January 14, 2018

The Far Greater Story

The Far Greater Story

As Lightgliders, our goals are to RESPECT, RESCUE, and RESTORE.  These goals are based upon the The Far Greater Story, the story of God’s love for us found in the Bible. Let me show you how.

We seek to RESPECT those around us because God loves you and everyone else.  He created us in His image.

We go on missions to RESCUE the Gliddles from the clutches of the Machines. God sent His Son Jesus on a mission to rescue us from the grip of sin.

We work to RESTORE the land from the blight. One day God will restore everything to its original beauty, purpose, and goodness.

God respects us, rescues us, and restores us. This is the Far Greater Story of His love. Knowing this story helps us to live with hope and purpose each day. Your story is a part of the Far Greater Story!

John 1:5 Bible Study

The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it. God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony.

- John 1:4-7 NLT

This passage calls Jesus the Word and tells us that He brought light to the world. John the Baptist was a man who told the world about this light. John lived to point others to Jesus. We have the same opportunity each day with our words and our actions.

How can we point others to Jesus?

January 7, 2018

You Were Made To Shine

You were made to shine. With a lot of darkness in the world, that can feel like a big responsibility. But like a candle in dark tunnel, even the smallest light can be blinding.

The Bible tells us that Jesus’ light will never go out. God sent His Son Jesus to shine light into the world and to save it. He also made us to shine with our unique passions and abilities. We have the opportunity to use our uniqueness to show God’s love to others. And, when we do, we are reflecting Jesus and shining light into the darkness. You may never the impact you are having as you shine each day.

Welcome to Lightgliders! Let’s glide!

This week we are learning about the final Lightglider value....love.  Love for God.  Love for others.  Love for yourself.  Love is significant because it motivates everything we do here at Lightglider Academy. It motivates us to respect each other, to rescue the Gliddles, and to restore the land.

The reason why we choose to live with love is because we know through the cross that we are GREATLY loved. When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, he showed us what it means to love by caring so deeply for our greatest need. This is our example and the reason why we seek to live motivated by love.If you are curious how to love, you can begin by putting the needs of the people you know in front of your own. Life becomes such a joyful adventure when we do this each day.

"So now I am giving you a new commandment: love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. "     ~ John 13:34 (NLT)

Decide to love God, love others, and love yourself. And do it in that order. It is the recipe for a life of purpose, adventure, and joy. Glide on!

How is love more of a decision than a feeling?

This week we are learning about the Lightglider value of hope. To live with hope means to look to the future with the belief that good things are coming.

After Jesus was resurrected, he promised to come back one day to restore God’s kingdom. This means that there will be a day when pain, suffering, and sadness will be no more! Because Jesus is trustworthy, we have a strong reason to live with hope. Living with hope spreads hope as we live, serve, and love others. The spark of hope can spread like a fire. And, as hope spreads, the future looks brighter and brighter.

"Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say."

 ~ II Thessalonians 2:16,17 (NLT)

To live with hope means to believe that the future will get brighter no matter how hard things are. We can have such hope because of the promises God gives us about the future. We look forward to eternal life with Him and that is the greatest hope of all.

This week we are learning about the Lightglider value of confidence.

Confidence comes from a strong belief that you are valuable. Do you know how valuable you are? Well, let me remind you! You are so valuable to God that He sent Jesus to die on the cross for you. Do you realize what this means? It means that you never have to question your value. You are greatly loved. You have a strong reason to be confident and to shine your light into the world. Never forget how valuable you are. You always have a reason to be confident.

"Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly                     and confidently into God’s presence."        ~ Ephesians 3:12 (NLT)

A Lightglider's confidence does not come from abilities, friends, or moral performance. It comes from God’s never changing love for us! Living with confidence is important because it gives us courage and boldness to be a light in dark places, to stand up for what is right, and to talk to God when we’ve made a mistake.

With the tremendous gifts and talents God has given you, you will accomplish great things and experience success in different areas of life. We must remember to remain humble and not become proud or arrogant.  Even though we have gifts and talents, we are not perfect. We have weaknesses and flaws. We have missed and continue to miss the mark in many ways. Remembering this helps us to not think of ourselves too highly, but to be thankful that God loves us anyway. Our sense of identity and joy does not come from our strengths or our weaknesses, but rather in God’s love for us.

“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take interest in others, too.”                     ~Philippians 2:3-4 (NLT)

To truly live with humility means to take the focus off ourselves, so that we can focus on others. Make sure you remember this important point about humility -- it is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself less.

To live with purpose means to live every day with the belief that your life matters and that you can make a difference.

Here at Lightglider Academy, we rescue Gliddles, clear the blight, and seek to help others any way we can. The whole world is in need and we were all uniquely created to make an impact.

“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” ~ Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)

So what do you want to do with this gift of life you’ve been given? You have the opportunity every day to make a positive impact on the world in the ways that you respect, love, and serve those around you. You have been created to be a world-changer.

Five Values

Did you know that you live by a set of values? We all do! Values are principles that affect the way we think and behave. Our values motivate the way we treat others and the way we interact with the world around us. As Lightgliders, we seek to live with five specific values. They are:

We think about and talk about these values all the time at Lightglider Academy because positively affect our lives and our decisions.

"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."                                                                                                                                                        ~ Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

Caring for Self

While we've been talking about caring for the people and world around us, it is equally important to care for our own selves. The greatest thing that God has given us to manage faithfully is our own lives! Sometimes it can be hard to love our selves when we mess up and hurt others, or disobey our parents or teachers.

However, it is important to remember that God loves us and sent Jesus to die for our sins - He cares for us and loves us even though He knows we mess up!

If God can continue to love us, then we must love ourselves!

We love ourselves by: eating healthy, taking time to rest, spending time in play/doing things we love, spending time with people, and spending time with God

A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.   ~ Matthew 22:39 (NLT)

To steward means to manages God's resources faithfully. He has put each of us in charge of different things: our passions, talents, abilities, and the world around us. Managing each of these things means that we don't waste what God has given us and we take care of the things He has trusted us with. With the gifts He has given us - wisdom, hospitality, service, encouragement.

We can faithfully steward them by using them to love and serve the people and world around us! We can take out the trash without our parents asking us to. We can encourage a friend when they are feeling down. We can use what we are passionate about to bring glory to God.

"God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another."

                                                                                                                                                      ~ 1 Peter 4:10

What have you been given to steward?

Last week we talked about how our motivations can lead us to either restore (love) or destroy (hate). God has given us the great responsibility to restore the world around us out of love, and to be faithful in that quest! We are to be faithful even in the smallest of things, because God has been faithful to us.

Even when we mess up and sin against Him, God is faithful to continue to love us and restore us.

We can be faithful because God is faithful!

"If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won't be honest with greater responsibilities."

                                                                                                                                                       - Luke 16:10 (NLT)

What are all the areas of your life that require faithfulness?
