Hi Lightgliders!

Did you know that there is a leadership program inside Lightgliders? That’s right! Lightgliders who are active in the community and are continually showing respect to their fellow Lightgliders become eligible for the Lightgliders Ambassador Program. This program gives Lightgliders special privileges and opportunities to lead. 

After three months and reaching light level 40, Lightgliders can apply for this leadership program and become an Ambassador. To apply, simply tell a moderator that you would like to be considered for Ambassadorship! After nine months (or sometimes sooner!), Lightgliders can apply to become a Senior Ambassador. To qualify, Lightgliders must show excellent leadership inside Lightgliders as evidenced by respectful social interactions, community event attendance, and helpfulness to others.  

Ambassadors and Senior Ambassadors are to be leaders and role models in the Lightgliders community. They receive a special glider, nameplate color, and privileges as well as responsibilities! Ambassadors can be recognized by their green nameplate, while Senior Ambassadors can be recognized by their blue nameplate. Moderators are recognized by their purple nameplate color. If you are new to Lightgliders, please ask an Ambassador, Senior Ambassador, or Moderator for help or even a tour!

All the ambassadors and moderators are here to serve the community and are expected to interact positively with others and to make the online community welcoming and encouraging. They each receive a stipend of gold coins each month, so that they can give gifts from TreeMart and Glider Gear to other Lightgliders, such as gliders, stickers, and hats. They lead the weekly Ambassador Hangout on Saturdays at 4pm EST / 3pm CST. Ambassadors are expected to be active in the Academy: a once-weekly participant or similar may lose their level of Ambassadorship.

Everyone in the Lightgliders community, including Ambassadors and Senior Ambassadors, must follow the chat rules. Anyone can lose their chat privileges and ambassador status at any time. So review the chat rules periodically and remember to always follow the first goal of a Lightglider – RESPECT!

MADE TO SHINE

Hey Lightgliders!

If you are new around here, we - the other Lightglider leaders and me - want you to know that you were MADE TO SHINE! That is something you will hear a lot around here because we need to know it and be reminded of it regularly. Let me tell you what this means.

• God created you uniquely. There is no one in the history of the world like you. No one else has your exact personality, interests, and talents. In other words, you were made. 

• You have opportunities every day to use your uniqueness to love God and to love others in ways that only you can. When you do this, you shine.

• When you put these two ideas together, it is easy to see that you were made to shine! 

And this is what we Lightgliders seek to do. With a lot of darkness in the world, this can feel like a big responsibility. But like a candle in a dark tunnel, even the smallest light can be blinding. If you’ve been to Machine Bunker in the Yonders, you know what I mean!

Jesus is the true light of the world. As we follow Him, we will shine like stars in the heavens and make an impact on the world. Let’s reflect His love and light everywhere we go this year!

Waterfall Cavern

Hello again! It’s Tambika, and I’m giving you a new mission in Waterfall Cavern, just underneath Waterfall Meadow. This cave seems to be where a lot of the blight is coming from, so we need to get in there and destroy the blight inside! Click on blight next to you to clear it. You can click and drag on multiple blight patches to restore them quickly! Blight usually covers treasures and Materials in the Yonders. Go ahead and grab them; you can trade them for cool stuff here at the Academy!

Clearing blight uses RES, the yellow bar to the left of your screen. If you run out, don’t worry. Just come back to the Academy and hang out. Your RES will recharge over time, and then you can go back to the mission where you last passed a checkpoint! Be on the lookout for RES orbs in the Yonders as well. Don’t grab the RES orbs if you’re already full on RES, or they’ll be wasted!

LIGHTGLIDERS

Hey there! Welcome to Lightgliders. My name is Kwan, and it’s my job to make sure you’re outfitted, trained, and ready for action. And that starts with you learning just what a Lightglider is!

Lightgliders are defenders of good, a force made up of individuals just like you that shine in the darkness and help out those in need. Right now, the land of Glideon is in need!

For unknown reasons, a mysterious gooey substance called blight is spreading all over the land. At the same time, strange Machines have appeared and are kidnapping lovable creatures called the Gliddles! It’s up to us to go on missions to clear away the blight and rescue the Gliddles from the Machines!

Being a Lightglider is a purposeful adventure. As you play, you will have opportunities to learn about the greatest adventure there is--to know God and to grow in His love for us.

If you are here in Lightgliders on a computer, click “Enter Lightglider Academy” to access the full Lightgliders experience. You’ll battle Machines, rescue Gliddles, clear blight, meet other Lightgliders, and much more.  

If you are here on a mobile device, you’re most likely already in the Academy! Explore the Courtyard, Innovation Lab, Library, and Mission Control! Play minigames, watch videos, create postcards, and read messages. As you do, you will level up your light bar and unlock more fun content. 

Many of the activities inside Lightgliders are color-coded, so make sure you know what the colors mean. Let me try to help!

Everything in Purple is a Game. There are lots of games to play inside Lightgliders.

Everything in Green is a Spark. These are short video stories that help us learn an important lesson from the Bible.

Everything in Orange is a Prayer. These are short prayer videos to do on your own or with a family member. 

Everything in Pink is a Postcard. Customize these and send them to your friends!

Everything in Red is a Message. These are articles about Lightgliders gameplay, the weekly lessons, Bible studies, and more. (Fun fact: You are currently reading one!)

Everything in Blue is LGTV.  These are gameplay videos to encourage fun, learning, and laughter. 

In time, you’ll learn more than just skills for battle and adventure. You’ll learn about the Far Greater Story found in the Bible, the story about the God who loves you more than you could possibly imagine.  As Lightgliders, we seek to RESPECT, RESCUE, and RESTORE every day because that is what God has done and is doing for us, in us, and through us.  You were made to use what He has given you to help a world in need.  You were made to shine!

Waterfall Meadow

Hi, Lightglider! My name is Tambika, and I handle administration here at Lightglider Academy. I’m ready to send you on your first official mission: going to Waterfall Meadow! You’ll learn the basics of gliding, battling, and rescuing there. Here’s a couple of tips to help you out: 

1. Use your mouse to glide around. Remember to keep your cursor on the game screen at all times to maximize your movements!
2. When rescuing Gliddles, you can carry up to five at a time. To rescue more Gliddles, drop the ones you have off at a Zipway to send them back to the Academy, and then go find more Gliddles!

3. Remember to keep your distance when battling Machines! Stay close enough so that your defense system will activate, but far enough away so that you can dodge Machine attacks!

There are plenty of treasures and secrets in the Yonders. Keep your eyes peeled for things that don’t seem to belong in their surroundings! Hope to see you back in the Courtyard soon!

Read the passages below from the Bible as a family.

Read Luke 2:1-15

“Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others - the armies of heaven - praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.’” - Luke 2:13-14 (NLT)

Think about and discuss these questions:

• Why is Jesus’ birth important?

• How did the shepherds respond after they saw the angels praising God?

Read Luke 2:16-21

“After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel has said to them about this child.” - Luke 2:17 (NLT)

Just like the shepherds, we are to share the good news of Christmas with others. Jesus is the reason for the season!

MOTIVATED BY LOVE

Hey Lightgliders!

Have you ever wondered why you do the things that you do? I was recently challenged to stop and consider the motivations behind each of my words and actions. Wow, was this challenging! It’s amazing how many of my daily decisions are motivated by selfishness. Often I choose to do what I want to do. I spend my time how I want to spend it. Sometimes I even do or say nice things just so I can look good to those around me. Sometimes I get annoyed with people and say things out of anger. Every so often I do something out of genuine love and concern for others. And I want that to happen more often!

I am learning that the more I think about God’s love for me, the more I am motivated to love others. I really want to do things each day out of a heart that is filled with love. I’m not there yet! Pray and ask God to make love the motivation of your heart. And pray this for me too!

REFLECTION

Hey Lightgliders!

Our lives operate at a fast pace. We wake up, eat breakfast, go to school, come home, do homework, eat dinner, go to bed, and often repeat it all the next day. If we’re not careful, our schedules and routines can quickly control our entire lives. 

In this week’s theme verse, Psalm 46:10, God is telling us to be still before Him. Why? Because slowing down and being still allows a couple of things to happen. First, we have the opportunity to remember all that God has done for us. Second, we are reminded that He is in control and not us! Being still before God and taking time to reflect on His goodness is good for our soul. God knows this! Sometimes He will even speak to your heart when you are still before Him. My prayer is that you hear how much He loves you because He really does! 

And what better time to slow down and reflect than during the Christmas season! The Lightglider leaders and Gliddles have decorated the Courtyard, so be sure to visit to see the Lightglider Christmas tree, listen to some holiday music, decorate your Treehouse with Christmas items, and spread some Christmas cheer!

NOVEMBER 29 - DECEMBER 5

COMPASSION

Hey Lightgliders!

Faith leads us into a relationship with Jesus and helps us to understand His love for us! Because of His love for us, we can love others. As we choose to love others through our words and actions, it will affect our hearts. And as we genuinely feel concern for others in our hearts, we will grow in compassion. Having compassion means that we are tenderhearted toward other people. We try to place ourselves in their shoes and treat them with love, dignity, and respect. We treat them how we would want to be treated. As we understand God’s compassion towards us, we will want to be compassionate with others. Who do you have genuine concern for? Who do you show compassion to? How do you show it?

Showing compassion may look a little different for everyone. We can write notes of encouragement, listen to others’ problems, invite a new friend to sit with during school lunch, or tell our parents how much we love them. Small acts of compassion make a big difference.  

Can you imagine if everyone showed a little bit of compassion every day? It would change the world!

Hey Lightgliders!

As you engage in Lightgliders by playing games, watching videos, and going on missions to the Yonders to rescue Gliddles and restore the land, you will earn light, fill up your light bar, and level up!

‍

And, as you level up, more will be opened up to you inside Lightgliders. You will be able to unlock new decks in your treehouse and collect more Boosts. You will be able to purchase more outfits in Glider Gear and more treehouse decorations in Tree-Mart.  More activities will be opened up to you. And, if you make it to level 80, you will become part of the Gleam Team!

Here are just some examples of what you can expect as you level up your Lightglider character. 

Level 1 - As you begin your adventure as a Lightglider, these standard outfits are available to you. The standard Glidetech Armor uniform as well as some outdoor gear are your choices. Check out your first Treehouse Deck, where you can grow your first Boost!

Hiya, Lightglider! Santiago here to share the rules of chat, so that we have an encouraging, respectful community here in Lightglider Academy.  Did you know that your actions and words can have a strong impact on others? Our goal is to respect our fellow Lightgliders. As the Bible tells us, we want to encourage each other and build each other up, not tear each other down! We can do this with chat by following some simple rules.

Rule #1: Be Respectful! 

Use your chat privilege to respect and encourage other Lightgliders! Make friends, send creative postcards, and have fun. Help make Lightglider Academy a welcoming place for new Lightgliders and a wonderful place for everyone. Respect others by not derailing events, hangouts, and other structured playtime. Don't annoy others by spamming chat.

Rule #2: Do Not Put Others Down or Make Them Feel Uncomfortable!

Do not use your chat privilege to discourage fellow Lightgliders. Do not insult or threaten other Lightgliders to their faces or behind their backs. Do not exclude other Lightgliders or tell them to leave. If someone is bothering you, just move away from them. 

Rule #3: Do Not Use Romantic Language!

Do not use your chat privilege to discuss crushes, "likes," or "loves." Do not try to find a "boyfriend" or "girlfriend," use lovey-dovey language towards other Lightgliders, or tell stories about romantic encounters. This includes describing excessive romantic actions or experiences. Respecting others means not toying with other Lightgliders' emotions. And respecting yourself means guarding your heart’s emotions as well.  

Rule #4: Do Not Ask About or Share Personal Information!

Do not tell other Lightgliders your real name, age, grade, or specific location (such as a city, county, or state) or that of your family. Do not share any information that identifies you in Lightgliders or in any other game. This includes your profile, password, game ID, gamertag, username, or any other moniker used online. These are considered personal information. Do not ask others for any of these things either. Especially don't tell others to join another game so that you can share your personal information or ask others for theirs. Be smart about what you tell others online! Try to avoid private conversations with other Lightgliders. Respecting others means respecting their privacy. 

Experienced Lightgliders know that these rules have been around for a long time. Repeatedly breaking these rules can result in your chat being taken away for a little while. If your chat has been taken away, take time to think about what you've said to others. Was it encouraging? Or did you put someone down or try to figure out their personal information? Talk with your parents or loved ones about what's happened.

Rule #5: Do Not Retaliate!

If you see someone breaking chat rules, it is not your place to punish them or make them feel bad. Using humility, explain to them what they are doing wrong and suggest a better way to act. Do not tell them they are bad or mean or tell them to leave. If someone has broken chat rules, let the moderators handle it and follow these tips:

• Explain what is wrong. Gently talk about what rules are being broken. Don't accuse them of breaking the rules harshly or yell that you're going to report them.
• Move away. If someone is bothering you, then move away from them. Calmly find another place to play.
• Find a moderator. Sometimes a moderator is in the game. If you see anyone with a purple nameplate, calmly tell them what happened. They'll know what to do!
• Report the wrong behavior. Tap on the Lightglider you think is breaking the rules, go to their Treehouse, and then click the red exclamation mark. Write a short message about what happened. The moderators will read it, even if you do not receive a response. Remember that the player you're reporting does not get the message you send!

Here are tips of what not to do:

• Don't put them down. Don't say that they are bad or mean people.
• Don't exclude them. Don't ostracize them from Lightglider Academy.
• Don't threaten them with consequences or pretend to hit them. 
• Don't talk about the wrongdoing constantly.
• Don't gang up on another Lightglider for breaking a chat rule.
• Don't gossip. Don’t talk badly about someone who isn't present.

Remember that respecting others means seeking justice, but loving mercy. 

Rule #6: Do Not Create Drama!

Everyone has different opinions: whether they like cats or dogs better, what game they should play next, or even what should be allowed in chat. If your opinion disagrees with someone else's opinion, that's okay! You can talk about your disagreement calmly. However, you should not get angry about that disagreement! Don't become dramatic, don't act as if everything is bad, and don't accuse the other person of being mean or bad. Don't storm off, spam emotes or chat, excessively talk about how sad you are, or threaten to end a friendship based on a disagreement. Explain your viewpoint but don't deny other Lightgliders that same liberty. Respecting others means having patience with each other! It also means thinking of others before yourself!

Summary

To summarize, do not say or infer through "workaround" language anything in chat that is harmful, abusive, insulting, obscene, embarrassing, unwanted, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive, infringing or invasive of someone else’s privacy. Breaking chat rules could result in the loss of chat privileges or access to Lightgliders. In addition, trying to circumvent a loss of chat can result in loss of access to the Academy.

Our goal is to make a safe, fun community for each other. Be humble, and think of others before yourself. If you see a chat rule being broken, gently remind others of the chat rules.  Encourage each other, and build each other up! Glide on!

FAITH

Hey Lightgliders!

Faith is a word you may hear quite a bit among people who go to church. To have faith means to trust and believe. We all practice faith on a daily basis. If you sit down in a chair, you trust and believe in that chair, that it will hold you up when you sit down! Faith in Jesus is similar. It means that our trust and belief is in Him and what He did for us on the cross. We can live with confidence and joy because our faith is in the only One who can rescue us from sin, evil, and death. And, according to our theme verse this week, the reward for our faith in Jesus is salvation. Jesus saves us from the punishment of our sin and gives us eternal life. This is good news!

Bryce here! Good job in the previous Bunker! You’re becoming a tremendous Lightglider. I have another mission for you. We’ve found another Bunker that creates Machines, this time underneath the big lake in the Yonders. The Machines there will be alerted to your presence, so stay sharp! Remember, different Gliddles are better at battling some Machines than others, so pay attention to the colors of the Machines and your Gliddles! Right-click to swap your active Gliddle!

THE CROSS

Hey Lightgliders!

‍

Did you know that the Far Greater Story is not a fairy tale or a myth? All we have talked about over the last few weeks--Creation, Rebellion, Redemption, and Restoration--is absolutely true. It was proven true by an event that we can investigate--the death and resurrection of Jesus. 

Think about that. Something happened in human history that proves that the story of God’s love for you is true.

As a refresher, here are all the parts of the story:

• Creation tells us how this world and our lives became a reality. God created.

• Rebellion explains why there is evil, suffering, and death in this world. It is because we all have rebelled against God. This is called sin. It has consequences and requires judgment.

• Redemption shares how Jesus paid the penalty for our sin at the cross and purchased our lives back. He took the judgement we deserved and made a way for us to be saved.

• Restoration gives us insight into why the future is bright. Jesus will restore all that is broken, and God will live with His people forever.

• The Cross proves that this is no fairy tale. The Far Greater Story is true. God’s love for you is real and He wants to have a relationship with you. 

Christianity rests upon this event at the cross. If Jesus did not die on a cross and come back to life, then our faith in Him is only wishful thinking. But the truth is that He did die. He was buried in a tomb and He rose again, defeating death and conquering sin on our behalf. This is what we call the Gospel. Gospel simply means “good news,” and the good news is that Jesus is our Savior. Because of Him, we can be forgiven and live in relationship with God forever. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to dive into what this means for our lives!

Sludge Canyon

Hey, it’s Tambika! Your next mission takes you back to the swamps: it’s time to move to Sludge Canyon! These little islands are surrounded by swamp water, but they’re so covered with blight that you can barely move around! This mission will take a lot of RES to clear all the blight and rescue those Gliddles. When you run out of RES, just come back to the Academy and rest. Your RES will recharge and you can take on the blight again!

Have you noticed that there are different kinds of blight? The plain dark blight is easy enough to clear away, but the speckly and gnarly blight require more RES to clear! The more twisted a patch of blight is, the harder it will be to restore. But watch for the purple blight! It often grows on top of RES orbs. Clearing this blight can give you back more RES than you use!

Responsibility

Hey Lightglider!

This week we wrap up our look at Restoration by talking about RESPONSIBILITY. God will restore all things one day, and while we wait, we can restore the world around us by the way we steward our lives and take responsibility for our actions! Responsibility is a big word that can be carried out in lots of small ways. To be responsible means that we are trustworthy in our actions and our words. Therefore, we are to do the very best we can in everything that we do and with everything we have. This includes our schoolwork, homework, friendships, extracurricular activities, and even the time in our day. It starts with the little things like cleaning up after yourself or doing your chores, but it can lead to big things like overseeing Lightglider missions to the Yonders or activities at your school or church. In what ways do you show yourself to be a responsible person? I try to show it through my work in the Innovation Lab. I seek to do the best that I can with what I have been given. I know that being responsible in the little things leads to greater responsibilities to come. Please remember this!

Hi there! My name’s Kwan, and I handle technology at the Academy. I have a mission for you that requires some quick thinking! The Entryway to some sort of abandoned building has a ton of special switches and secrets, so explore every nook and cranny of this level! Rumor has it that there’s also some sort of giant Machine somewhere on the Entryway grounds!

Can you get into the first room of the building? There’s some sort of special switch that you have to find and press… maybe it’s in a hard-to-reach area? Or maybe it’s hidden in plain sight? You’ll have to go to find out!

PEACE

Hey Lightgliders!

We have recently been looking at the final chapter of The Far Greater Story known as Restoration. We have learned that Jesus will come back one day and restore all that is broken. Because we have this hope for tomorrow, we can live with peace today. When you have peace, your mind is calm and your heart is not troubled. Peace comes from trusting in Jesus, who promises us a bright future with Him.

Is your mind and heart experiencing peace today? If not, talk to Jesus and ask Him to comfort you. He loves you more than you could possibly imagine. When you realize this, you will know peace and joy. You might even burst out into songs, as our theme verse this week says!

Let’s sing some songs of praise in Lightglider Academy this week!

Bunker Brawl

Hey, it’s Bryce! I have another bonus mission to give you, and it’s a tough one! There is a Machine spawner in the bunker below the lake in the Yonders, and we need you to stop it! 

This battle will put all your gliding skills to the test! Weave around Machine attacks, use the Gliddles to help you battle, and come out on top! Make sure to grab the health packs if you’ve been hit a few times. It will replenish your armor so you can get back into the fray! Don’t grab more than you can hold, though! Once a chunk of your armor is lost, it’s gone!

We believe in you, Lightglider! You’ll do great!
