LIKE A LIGHT!

Thistle Daring Cloudburst had some GREAT ideas during Game Design with Corrigan last week and was such a great friend, giving tours to new Lightgliders inside the Academy! Nice work, Thistle!

And Spike Fearless Marshmallow was showing off so INCREDIBLE friendship skills inside the Academy last week as well! We love to see Lightgliders treating each other with RESPECT - one of the three goals of a Lightglider!

And you too can be in the Spotlight and receive the Shining Spotlight Glider and RES Head to wear. Keep shining in all you do in Lightglider Academy -- join the community events, show respect to other Lightgliders, create amazing postcards, rescue Gliddles, restore blight, lead other Lightgliders in a game you made up, or just be a positive influence to others. There are lots of ways to shine!

Timberlands Approach

Hey, it’s Bryce! Are you ready to take on the Machines once again? We’re sending you to the Timberlands Approach, an area infested with Machines! Rescue the Gliddles there and get ready to battle!

Watch out for Machine attacks, especially from the blue Machines! Their blasts are very powerful. If you get hit too much, you’ll lose a chunk of armor and have to start back at the last checkpoint!

Be careful out there, and remember to keep an eye out for secret grates!

Leadership

June 7, 2021

JUNE 7 - JUNE 13

Leadership

Hey Lightgliders!

Jabari yako rafiki! That means ‘How are you my friend?’ in Swahili. I’m Tambika. I manage Lightglider Academy while the Professor is away. Running this place isn’t easy, but it is rewarding. I try to meet all the new Lightgliders when they arrive in the Courtyard. That is a fun part of my job! I even get to send you on your first mission to the Yonders for those of you playing in the desktop app.

I was born and raised in Tanzania. Do you know where that is? It is a beautiful country in Africa. Growing up, I always looked for leadership positions in my school and community. I love to serve others through organization. I love plans. I love calendars. I love details. And, all of these things are important at Lightglider Academy. Otherwise, everything would be more chaotic than it already is!

I encourage you to use your gifts to serve others. We need people in this world with all types of gifts and talents. No matter how you are gifted, always remember that being a leader means serving others first. This is called servant leadership.

Role Models

May 31, 2021

MAY 31 - JUNE 6

Role Models

Hey Lightgliders!

I get the distinct privilege of introducing our new series. We will be talking about Role Models and the positive character qualities that they possess.

Now I know what you’re thinking. “Isn’t a role model just really good-looking bread?” And to that I say, “No, that’s a roll model.”  Wow, I just got really hungry.

A role model is someone you can look up to! He or she serves as an example to you for how to live, how to treat people, and how to grow in your faith. I can’t tell you how important it is to have good role models!  One of my first role models ever was Marlon, who hangs out in the Academy Library.  Marlon cares about me and shows me what it looks like to walk with God. Who are some of your role models? It could be a parent, an older sibling, a teacher, a coach, or perhaps a leader in your church. I encourage you to find someone you look up to, watch how they live their lives, and ask them lots of questions. And remember to listen to their answers!

Blighted Institute

Hello again! It’s Tambika, and I have a tricky mission for you. We’ve found a major source of blight in the Yonders: some kind of old abandoned Institute. It’s full of empty classrooms, broken tech, and lots and lots of blight! We need you to go in there and clear out all the blight!

Have you been collecting the Lilies that grow in the Yonders? Not only are they pretty, but they somehow grow without being harmed by the blight! Please bring back some of these Lilies for research. Every mission has 10 Lilies growing in them. Can you find them all?

We’ve found some sort of locked door that only opens with coins. I wonder who put this kind of toll entrance there? What treasures are behind that door? Will you spend the coins to open the door? The choice is yours!

Impact

May 24, 2021

MAY 24 - MAY 30

IMPACT

Hey Lightgliders!

As we wrap up our unit on the Lightgliders Mission, we’re taking a look at Impact - the influence we have on the world. As you share God’s love with others, you will have a great impact. God has created each of us with unique strengths and gifts! And, according to this week’s theme verse, He has planned good things for us to do with our lives. These good things will impact the world in a positive way. I hope that as you go on missions, play games, or watch videos in Lightgliders, you discover what you are passionate about, what you are good at, and what gifts others see in you.  And as you continue to KNOW and GROW in God’s love, you will SHOW others that life with Him is an amazing adventure!

Think about the kind of impact you want to have on the world, and ask God to empower you to be and do everything He created you to be and to do.

Remember that different Machines have different weaknesses. The Gliddles you rescue have different powers to lend to you, so experiment with different Gliddles by right-clicking. If you see a [!] sign pop up from a Machine, you’ll know that the Gliddle power you’re using is dealing the Machine you’re fighting extra damage! Make sure to dodge the blue Machines’ attacks. They will stun you!

Prayer

May 17, 2021

MAY 17 - MAY 23

PRAYER

Hey Lightgliders!

As we continue to look at what it means to know, grow in, and show God’s love, the theme this week is PRAYER. Prayer simply means talking with God. It helps us to GROW IN God’s love! The primary goal of prayer is intimacy with the One who made us! God loves when we talk with Him about our lives, thank Him for the good things He has given us, and ask Him for help. Prayer doesn’t have to be long and full of big words for it to matter. Prayer is telling God what is on your heart, and listening for what is on His. Our theme verse this week tells us to always be praying. Through prayer, we are always connected to the One who loves us so much.

The Bible

May 10, 2021

MAY 10 - MAY 16

THE BIBLE

Hey Lightgliders!

The Bible. It’s a big book that has a lot of meaning. Some see it as an intimidating book that is hard to understand. Some see it as an old book meant for an older time. Do not let these opinions stop you from reading it! The Bible reveals the most important story we could ever know - the true story of God’s love for us. God has made Himself known through the pages of the Bible and we have the opportunity to get to know Him every time we read it! Not a word is wasted in the pages of the Bible. All of it points to our good, loving God who created, redeems, and restores His people. Though some of the stories can be hard to understand, the Bible begins to become more clear as we continue to read it, ask questions, and grow in our understanding. We can pray and ask God for wisdom when we open up our Bibles. We can ask those that are older and wiser to read the Bible with us and help us understand! Engaging with the Bible isn’t a one-time thing. We can read it for a lifetime and gain more knowledge, understanding, and wisdom with each time we open it up!

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)

It's time to spotlight some Lightgliders who have been shining brightly in the Academy.  Congratulations, Macy Golden Champion and Amber Awesome Artist: You are in the Spotlight and will receive a Shining Spotlight Glider and RES Head to use this week!

So bright!!

Macy Golden Champion is in the spotlight this week because of her stellar participation in Bible Chat with Gertrude! Macy is encouraging to other Lightgliders and does such a great job chatting with friends during Bible Chat! Keep it up, Macy!

Amber Awesome Artist was the top Lightglider for the newest Game of the Week, Mission: Neglected Institute! Well done, Amber!

Sludge Canyon

Hey, it’s Tambika! Your next mission takes you back to the swamps: it’s time to move to Sludge Canyon! These little islands are surrounded by swamp water, but they’re so covered with blight that you can barely move around! This mission will take a lot of RES to clear all the blight and rescue those Gliddles. When you run out of RES, just come back to the Academy and rest. Your RES will recharge and you can take on the blight again!

Have you noticed that there are different kinds of blight? The plain dark blight is easy enough to clear away, but the speckly and gnarly blight require more RES to clear! The more twisted a patch of blight is, the harder it will be to restore. But watch for the purple blight! It often grows on top of RES orbs. Clearing this blight can give you back more RES than you use!

The Cross

May 3, 2021

MAY 3 - MAY 9

THE CROSS

Hey Lightgliders!

Did you know that the Far Greater Story is not a fairy tale or a myth? All we have talked about over the last few weeks--Creation, Rebellion, Redemption, and Restoration--is absolutely true. It was proven true by an event that we can investigate--the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Think about that. Something happened in human history that proves that the story of God’s love for you is true.

As a refresher, here are all the parts of the Far Greater Story:

• Creation tells us how this world became a reality. God created.

• Rebellion explains why there is suffering and brokenness in this world. It is because we and everyone else are sinners. Sin has consequences and requires judgment.

• Redemption shares how Jesus paid the penalty for our sin at the cross and bought back our lives. He took the judgment for our sin.

• Restoration gives us insight into why our future is bright. Jesus will restore all that is broken, and God will live with His people forever.

• The Cross proves that this is no fairy tale. This is a true story based upon facts.

Christianity rests upon the cross event. If Jesus did not die on a cross and come back to life, then our faith in Him is only wishful thinking. But the truth is that He did die. He was buried in a tomb and He rose again, defeating death and conquering sin on our behalf. We recently celebrated this amazing, true event at Easter! This good news of the gospel is that by trusting in Jesus and in what He did for us at the cross, we can be forgiven and live with God forever.

“I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.” - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (NLT)

Timberlands Treetops

Hey, Lightglider! It’s Bryce. Our next mission is to head back to the Timberlands and explore the treetops! There are lots of dangerous Machines up there, but I know you’ll battle them with ease!

A great tactic to deal with faster Machines is to “kite!” When a Machine charges you, start slowly backing away, firing behind you as you go. The Machine will try to chase you, but they won’t be able to catch you. It’s like you’re stringing along a kite behind you!

Use this tactic on many of the smaller Machines. You’ll come out on top! Glide on!

Restoration

April 26, 2021

APRIL 26 - MAY 2

RESTORATION

Hey Lightgliders!

We’ve spent the last few weeks looking at the Far Greater Story. We’ve learned about Creation, Rebellion, and Redemption. Now it’s time for the final act - Restoration! Every good story has a BIG ending. Well, the Far Greater Story has the BIGGEST ending that actually leads to a new beginning. This is the one part of the Far Greater Story that we have yet to experience fully. It will happen some time in the future, and we can look forward to it with great anticipation!

To restore something means to bring it back to its original condition. This is what God will do with our broken world when Jesus comes back. God has redeemed His children through Jesus, but we still experience the consequences of sin and rebellion in our world today. Jesus has promised us that He will return and make right all that has gone wrong. This is what “Restoration” is all about. Scripture tells us that there will be no more pain, or crying, or suffering for those who have placed their faith in Jesus.

Until that day comes, we can work to restore the world around us in small ways. Every word of truth that we speak and every act of love that we do in His name points to this future restoration. When we shine light in the darkness, we are a signpost of what is to come.

Neglected Institute

Bryce here! I’ve pinpointed the location of an abandoned Institute. It’s full of Machines that we have to battle, as well as Gliddles we need to rescue!

Be careful roaming those halls--our sensors show that there are giant Machines inside. Team up with Gliddles and battle hard! Remember, if a Gliddle gets tired, the next Gliddle will take its place as your battle partner. Right-click to switch Gliddles on the fly. Maybe you want to conserve a Gliddle’s energy, or maybe you’ll want to use the right Gliddle for the job!

There seems to be an interconnected door system in the Institute. Unlocking one door will unlock many others! Be on the lookout for door switches and out-of-place grates!

Glide on!

Redemption

April 19, 2021

APRIL 19 - APRIL 25

REDEMPTION

 Hey Lightglider!

Continuing in The Far Greater Story, we have come to its climax, known as Redemption. To redeem something means to buy it back. Remember that God created everything and called it good. This is why there is dignity in the world and within everyone in it. However, we have rebelled against God’s standard of goodness. This is called sin. And, because of our sin, we are separated from God. Without the next part of the story, we are left without hope.

But God, in His goodness, didn’t leave us hopeless! He sent His Son Jesus to redeem us. When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the penalty for our sin. He bought us back! When Jesus was resurrected three laters later, he defeated death. He made a way for us to be restored to God and to live with Him forever! This is what it means to be redeemed. This is the heart of The Far Greater Story and the proof that God loves us.

Spotlights #35

April 17, 2021

It's time to spotlight some Lightgliders who have been shining brightly in the Academy.  Congratulations, Roderick Mysterious Champion and Daisy Wild Woo: You are in the Spotlight and will receive a Shining Spotlight Glider and RES Head to use this week!

Keep those glasses on because you are BRIGHT!

Roderick loves sending encouraging words to other Lightgliders! He loves reminding his friends that God loves them and that we all were created for a purpose.

Daisy loves playing around with everyone in the Academy and is very respectul to everyone.

Sludge Canyon

Hey, it’s Tambika! This mission takes you back to the swamps: it’s time to go to Sludge Canyon!

Rebellion

April 12, 2021

APRIL 12 - APRIL 18

Rebellion

Hey Lightglider!

We spent last week learning about Creation. To understand Creation is to recognize that God created everything, and that includes you and me! And because He created us in His image, our lives have purpose and tremendous value. This is the first part of the Far Greater Story of God’s love for us revealed in the Bible. It answers some really important questions like:

• How did we get here?

• Do our lives matter?

The second part of the story answers another really important question, which is:

• What is wrong with the world?

This is a question that we have to ask if we are being honest with what we see in the world around us and even in our own hearts. A rebellion is an open resistance to an authority. As our Creator, God is our authority. To rebel against Him is to disobey His commands. This is called “sin.” It happens every time we do not live up to God’s standard of goodness and love. Whether we sin on purpose or by accident, we are rebelling against the way God has commanded us to live. This separates us from God and causes havoc in the world.

We all have rebelled against God and His goodness. And the Bible tells us that the penalty of our rebellion is death because our sin needs to be punished. This is why we need to be rescued. This is why we need a Savior. The penalty for our rebellion needs to be paid. Our sin needs to be forgiven. Until we understand this, the story of Jesus will never make any sense to us.

Pray this week for help to recognize how you have rebelled and for the courage to confess it to God.

Creation

April 5, 2021

APRIL 5 - APRIL 11

Creation

Hey Lightglider!

Did you know that the Bible begins by telling us that God is the Creator. The very first verse of Genesis tells us this! He created the heavens, the earth, the animals, and human beings. And He called all that He created good. And Genesis 1:27 tells us that God created us in His image. You were made in the image of a good, holy, and loving God.

Do you realize what this means?!?!? It means that our lives matter! It means that our lives are valuable! It means that we are capable of extraordinary things!

Because you bear God’s image, you have dignity and purpose that is worthy of honor and respect. And, in the same way a mirror reflects your image back to you, you have the opportunity to reflect the image of God to the world. You are a light made to shine!
