Humility

February 8, 2021

FEBRUARY 8 - FEBRUARY 14

Humility

Hey Lightgliders!

This week we are discussing the Lightglider value of humility. We learned last week about purpose - how God has created each of us uniquely and in His image. Because of this, our lives are filled with purpose. Even though each of us are created to shine like stars in the universe, we must understand that we are far from perfect. The sin and selfishness that began in the Garden of Eden carries on today in every human heart. It causes division, brokenness, and strife. Admitting our need for God’s love and forgiveness requires humility. To live with humility means to acknowledge that we are weak. We cannot depend on our own talents, accomplishments, or even our good behavior. These things will fail us and will never be able to pay for our sin. We have to depend on God and His power to save us through Jesus. Only with humble hearts is this even possible. As we live with humility, we are able to take our focus off ourselves, receive God’s love, and truly focus on the needs of others.

When you go on enough Yonders missions, you will be ready for one filled with puzzles. One of these is called “Keep Out!” That’s a good name for it because those who are proud or unwilling to fail should keep out. To complete it, you will need humility. Stay focused on your missions to the Yonders. You will fail at some. You will succeed at some. But, in everything including Yonders missions, stay humble!

Every week, more and more Lightgliders shine brightly in Lightglider Academy. It’s time to recognize them for their achievements! Congratulations, Rose Wild Champion and Buster Ninja Crunch: You are in the Spotlight and will receive a Shining Spotlight Glider and RES Head to use this week!

SO BRIGHT!

Rose Wild Champion is such a fun friend to play with! She loves helping others and is respectful to other kids in the Academy! Way to go, Rose!

And Buster Ninja Wild?! Well, he is a very kind friend! He is very polite to everyone he meets, and LOVES making new friends! Keep it up, Buster!

Keep shining in all you do in Lightglider Academy -- join the community events, show respect to other Lightgliders, create amazing postcards, rescue Gliddles, restore blight, lead other Lightgliders in a game you made up, or just be a positive influence to others. There are lots of ways to shine!

This week we’ve got some game tips for Tambika’s level: Waterfall Meadow! If you’re new here, this is the first official mission Tambika will send you on! You’ll learn the basics of gliding, battling, and rescuing there. Here are a couple of tips to help you out:

  1. Use your mouse to glide around. Remember to keep your cursor on the game screen at all times to maximize your movements!
  2. When rescuing Gliddles, you can carry up to five at a time. To rescue more Gliddles, drop the ones you have off at a Zipway to send them back to the Academy, and then go find more Gliddles!
  1. Remember to keep your distance when battling Machines! Stay close enough so that your defense system will activate, but far enough away so that you can dodge Machine attacks!

There are plenty of treasures and secrets in the Yonders. Keep your eyes peeled for things that don’t seem to belong in their surroundings!

And lastly, don’t forget that Lightglider Academy is coming to your mobile device SO SOON! You’ll be able to hang out with friends, send postcards, customize your Lightglider, AND buy new clothes, hats, and gliders from Glider Gear!! And if your friends are on their desktop app, don’t worry! You’ll be able to hang out with them in the Academy while you’re on your mobile device! Stay tuned for more coming soon!

Purpose

February 1, 2021

FEBRUARY 1 - FEBRUARY 7

Purpose

Hey Lightgliders!

Purpose is one of the five core values of a Lightglider. To live with purpose means to live with the belief that your life matters. As Lightgliders, we believe that our lives are both valuable and meaningful. But how do we know this is true? It comes from the truth that God made us in His image. Because of this, our lives have worth and dignity that no one can take away. If the Creator of the universe took time to create you, then guess what. Your life matters and you are here for a reason! To live with purpose means to live every day with this strong belief.

In Lightglider Academy, we rescue Gliddles, clear the blight, and seek to help others any way we can. Look around you. The world is in need and you were uniquely created to make a difference! Each day provides us a new opportunity to live an adventure filled with purpose!

The Far Greater Story

January 25, 2021

JANUARY 25 - JANUARY 31

The Far Greater Story

Hey Lightglider!

The goals of a Lightglider are to respect, rescue, and restore. We seek to RESPECT those around us. We go on missions from Lightglider Academy to RESCUE the Gliddles from the clutches of the Machines. And we clear the blight to RESTORE the land to its original beauty, purpose, and goodness. Did you know that this fun gameplay points to a far greater, far more important story? It points to the true story of God’s love for us.

The Bible reveals God as the ultimate respecter, rescuer, and restorer. He RESPECTS us by creating us in His image and giving us dignity and purpose. He RESCUES us from the grip of our sin and selfishness through the death and resurrection of Jesus. And He promises to RESTORE us and our broken world one day so that we may live forever with Him. This is the Far Greater Story.

Three Goals

January 18, 2021

JANUARY 18 - JANUARY 24

Three Goals

Hey Lightglider!

Lightgliders live with great purpose because we have three overarching goals that never change: RESPECT, RESCUE, and RESTORE! We respect ourselves and each other at Lightglider Academy. We rescue Gliddles from the clutches of the Machines. And we restore the land from the blight. A goal is something that you are trying to achieve. Setting goals is important because they give us something to strive for! They also help guide how we spend our time. When we set a goal, we commit to think and act in ways that will help us reach it.

Five Values

January 11, 2021

JANUARY 11 - JANUARY 17

FIVE VALUES

Hey Lightgliders!

After a recent Yonders mission, I was talking with Santiago in the courtyard about the Lightglider values -- why we do what we do! When I’m in Timberlands Treetops clearing blight and battling Machines, it’s important for me to remember the Lightglider values. These are the values we strive to live by. I want them to deeply impact how I think, how I act, and how I behave. They are especially important to remember in times of uncertainty and pressure, like when I’m battling a Clampneck Machine in the Yonders!

Most every family, community, and culture live by a set of values. Lightgliders seek to live with five values: purpose, humility, confidence, hope, and love. These values are deeply supported by the overarching story of the Bible:

ˆPurpose: Because God created us in His image (Genesis 1:27), our lives are valuable. They have purpose.

ˆHumility: No one is perfect; we all fall short of God’s moral standard of goodness (Romans 3:23). A deep understanding of this produces a life of humility.

ˆConfidence: Knowing that God loves us and that Jesus paid for our sins at the cross despite our shortcomings generates a strong sense of confidence (Ephesians 2:8-10). We can be confident because we are greatly loved by the only One who matters!

ˆHope: Because the future is in God’s hands and that He promises to restore the brokenness around us, we can always looks ahead with hope believing that good things are coming. When we live with hope, we give hope to others (Romans 15:13).

ˆLove: With Jesus as our example, we seek to love. Such love is not a feeling. It is a choice that inspires action by putting the needs of others before our own (John 15:13). This is exactly what Jesus did at the cross!

Just like a good seed properly nourished helps to produce a beautiful tree, good values help to produce beautiful lives.

Made to Shine

January 4, 2021

JANUARY 4 - JANUARY 10

MADE TO SHINE

Hey Lightglider!

We’re so glad you’re here. We - the other Lightglider leaders and me - want you to know that you were MADE TO SHINE!

God created you uniquely. No one has your unique interests, personality, and talents. To shine means to love God and to love others in the way that only you can. With a lot of darkness in the world, this can feel like a big responsibility. But like a candle in a dark tunnel, even the smallest light can be blinding. If you’ve been to Machine Bunker in the Yonders, you know what I mean!

Jesus is the true light of the world. As we follow Him, we will shine like stars in the heavens and make an impact on the world. Let’s reflect His love and light everywhere we go this year!

Glide On!

Lightgliders

December 28, 2020

DECEMBER 28 - JANUARY 3

LIGHTGLIDERS

Hey there! Welcome to Lightgliders. My name is Kwan, and it’s my job to make sure you’re outfitted, trained, and ready for action. And that starts with you learning just what a Lightglider is!

Lightgliders are defenders of good, a force made up of individuals just like you that shine in the darkness and help out those in need. Right now, the land of Glideon is in need!

For unknown reasons, a mysterious gooey substance called blight is spreading all over the land. At the same time, strange Machines have appeared and are kidnapping lovable creatures called the Gliddles! It’s up to us to clear away the blight and rescue the Gliddles from the Machines!

Being a Lightglider is a purposeful adventure. As you play, you will have opportunities to learn about the greatest adventure there is--to know God and to grow in His love for us.

If you are here on a computer, click “Enter Lightglider Academy” to access the full Lightgliders experience. You’ll battle Machines, rescue Gliddles, clear blight, meet other Lightgliders, and much more.

If you are here on a mobile device, play minigames, watch videos, create postcards, and read messages. As you do, you will level up your light bar. Many of the activities are color-coded, so make sure you know what the colors mean. Let me try to help!

Everything in Purple is a Game. There are lots of games to play inside Lightgliders.

Everything in Green is a Spark. These are short video stories that help us learn an important lesson from the Bible.

Everything in Orange is a Prayer. These are short prayer videos to do on your own or with a family member.

Everything in Pink is a Postcard. Customize these and send them to your friends!

Everything in Red is a Message. These are articles about Lightgliders gameplay, the weekly lessons, Bible studies, and more. (Fun fact: You are currently reading one!)

Everything in Blue is LGTV.  These are gameplay videos to encourage fun, learning, and laughter.

In time, you’ll learn more than just skills for battle and adventure. You’ll learn about the Far Greater Story found in the Bible, the story about the God who loves you more than you could possibly imagine.  As Lightgliders, we seek to RESPECT, RESCUE, and RESTORE every day because that is what God has done and is doing for us, in us, and through us.  You were made to use what He has given you to help a world in need.  You were made to shine!

Welcome to Lightgliders! Let’s glide!

Glide On!

Kwan

P.S. If you make it into Lightglider Academy, you will find me in the Innovation Lab!

Christmas

December 21, 2020

DECEMBER 21 - DECEMBER 27

CHRISTMAS

Hey Lightgliders!

Read the passages below from the Bible as a family.

Read Luke 2:1-15

“Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others - the armies of heaven - praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is please.’” - Luke 2:13-14 (NLT)

Think about and discuss these questions:

• Why is Jesus’ birth important?

• How did the shepherds respond after they saw the angels praising God?

Read Luke 2:16-21

“After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel has said to them about this child.” - Luke 2:17 (NLT)

Just like the shepherds, we are to share the good news of Christmas with others. Jesus is the reason for the season!

Merry Christmas!

Marlon

Faithfulness

December 14, 2020

DECEMBER 14 - DECEMBER 20

FAITHFULNESS

Hey Lightgliders!

The word “faithful” means to be true to one’s word and promises. Faithfulness is a character quality of God’s that we, as His children, can reflect. God has been, and will always be, fully faithful to His promises that we read in the Bible.

Because He is faithful, we too are called to be faithful. When we tell someone we are going to do something, we follow through. When we are gifted with a specific ability, we are faithful to exercise that gift for God’s glory. As we continue to be faithful, God’s character will be on display through us! Can you think of examples of faithfulness?

Here are a few that I thought of for when I am in Lightglider Academy:

• Taking care of and decorating my Treehouse so that the Gliddles have a beautiful place to live

• Using Boosts on other Lightgliders to help them on their Yonders missions

• Partnering with the Gliddles to battle the Machines more effectively

And here are a few for when I am in my home:

• Doing what my parents ask of me

• Taking my studies seriously

• Using my words to encourage others

• Taking time to pray to the One who is faithful to me

When we are faithful, we are shining light into the world!

Motivated By Love

December 7, 2020

DECEMBER 7 - DECEMBER 13

MOTIVATED BY LOVE

Hey Lightgliders!

Have you ever wondered why you do the things that you do? I was recently challenged to stop and consider the motivations behind each of my words and actions. Wow, was this challenging! It’s amazing how many of my daily decisions are motivated by selfishness. Often I choose to do what I want to do. I spend my time how I want to spend it. Sometimes I even do or say nice things just so I can look good to those around me. Sometimes I get annoyed with people and say things out of anger. Every so often I do something out of genuine love and concern for others. And I want that to happen more often!

I am learning that the more I think about God’s love for me, the more I am motivated to love others. I really want to do things each day out of a heart that is filled with love. I’m not there yet! Pray and ask God to make love the motivation of your heart. And pray this for me too!
