Scriptures

NOVEMBER 9 - NOVEMBER 15

SCRIPTURES

Hey Lightgliders!

The Bible. It’s a big book that has a lot of meaning. Some see it as an intimidating book that is hard to understand. Some see it as an old book meant for an older time. Do not let these opinions stop you from reading it! The Bible reveals the most important story we could ever know--the true story of God’s love for us. God has made Himself known through the pages of the Bible and we have the opportunity to get to know Him every time we read it! Not a word is wasted in the pages of the Bible. All of it points to our good, loving God who created, redeems, and restores His people. Though some of the stories can be hard to understand, the Bible begins to become more clear as we continue to read it, ask questions, and grow in our understanding. We can pray and ask God for wisdom when we open up our Bibles. We can ask those that are older and wiser to read the Bible with us and help us understand! Engaging with the Bible isn’t a one-time thing. We can read it for a lifetime and gain more knowledge, understanding, and wisdom with each time we open it up!

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)

Faith

November 2, 2020

NOVEMBER 2 - NOVEMBER 8

FAITH

Hey Lightgliders!

Faith is a word you may hear quite a bit among people who go to church. To have faith means to trust and believe. We all practice faith on a daily basis. If you sit down in a chair, you trust and believe in that chair, that it will hold you up when you sit down! Faith in Jesus is similar. It means that our trust and belief is in Him and what He did for us on the cross. We can live with confidence and joy because our faith is in the only One who can rescue us from sin, death, and evil. And, according to our theme verse this week, the reward for our faith in Jesus is salvation. Jesus saves us from the punishment of our sin and gives us eternal life. This is good news!

“You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.” - 1 Peter 1:8-9 (NLT)

Compassion

October 26, 2020

OCTOBER 26 - NOVEMBER 1

COMPASSION

Hey Lightgliders!

As we choose to love others through our words and actions, it will affect our hearts. As we genuinely feel concern for others in our hearts, we will grow in compassion. Having compassion means that we are tenderhearted toward other people. We try to place ourselves in their shoes and treat them with love, dignity, and respect. We treat them how we would want to be treated. As we understand God’s compassion towards us, we will want to be compassionate with others. Who do you have genuine concern for? Who do you show compassion to? How do you show it?

Showing compassion may look a little different for everyone. We can write notes of encouragement, listen to others’ problems, invite a new friend to sit with during school lunch, or tell our parents how much we love them. Small acts of compassion make a big difference.

Can you imagine if everyone showed a little bit of compassion every day? It would change the world!

“You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.” - Luke 6:36 (NLT)

Love

October 19, 2020

OCTOBER 19 - OCTOBER 25

LOVE

Hey Lightgliders!

Last week, we looked at the cross and how Jesus’ death and resurrection gives us new life. Jesus’ willingness to die on the cross in our place is the greatest act of love this world has ever known. He willingly gave up His life so that we might live.

This love was not a feeling. It was a choice. Jesus made the decision to love us, and He followed through. Love cost Jesus His life. So often we think of love as just a feeling. If love is just a feeling, our motivation to care for others can quickly go away. When we are motivated by God’s love for us shown on the cross, we will choose to love others and will follow through no matter what.

“So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.” - John 13:34 (NLT)

The Cross

October 12, 2020

OCTOBER 12 - OCTOBER 18

THE CROSS

Hey Lightgliders!

Did you know that the Far Greater Story is not a fairy tale or a myth? All we have talked about over the last few weeks--Creation, Rebellion, Redemption, and Restoration--is absolutely true. It was proven true by an event that we can investigate--the death and resurrection of Jesus.

Think about that. Something happened in human history that proves that the story of God’s love for you is true.

As a refresher, here are all the parts of the story:

• Creation tells us how this world became a reality. God created.

• Rebellion explains why there is suffering and brokenness in this world. It is because we and everyone else are sinners. Sin has consequences and requires judgment.

• Redemption shares how Jesus paid the penalty for our sin at the cross and bought back our lives.

• Restoration gives us insight into why our future is bright. Jesus will restore all that is broken, and God will live with His people forever.

• The Cross proves that this is no fairy tale. This is a true story based upon facts.

Christianity rests upon this event. If Jesus did not die on a cross and come back to life, then our faith in Him is only wishful thinking. But the truth is that He did die. He was buried in a tomb and He rose again, defeating death and conquering sin on our behalf. This is what we call the Gospel. Gospel simply means “good news,” and the good news that we have in Jesus is that through His death, burial, and resurrection we can be forgiven and live with God forever.

“I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.” - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (NLT)

Gratefulness

OCTOBER 5 - OCTOBER 11

GRATEFULNESS

Hey Lightgliders!

We have recently been looking at the final chapter of The Far Greater Story known as Restoration. We have learned that Jesus will come back one day and restore all that is broken. Because of this, we can live with hope. Hope is a feeling of trust that the future is bright. And, because of this hope for tomorrow, we can be grateful today.

Being grateful is a practice we MUST put into place in our daily lives. Yes, that’s right. We can practice gratefulness. I’ll show you how. Just think of three things you are grateful for.

Ok, now do this again tomorrow. And the next day. And the next.

You get the idea! Thank God for these things. Everything good comes from Him.

And, if you can’t think of anything to be grateful for (which I find hard to believe), look back to the cross, and look ahead to the future restoration. Because Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and promises to make things right one day, there are always reasons to be grateful.

So, what are you grateful for? Allow me to tell you what I’m grateful for. Maybe that will help.  I am grateful to God for waking me up this morning, giving me a place to live, providing people in my life who care about me, and showing me the beauty of creation - blue skies, green grass, and a warm sun. I’m also grateful for my guitar and for music in general. I am grateful for soccer, and for corny jokes. I could do this gratefulness thing all day! It is so grate….I mean, great!

Hope

September 28, 2020

SEPTEMBER 28 - OCTOBER 4

HOPE

Hey Lightgliders!

This week we are talking about hope. To live with hope means to look to the future with the expectation that good things are ahead.

This is tough to do sometimes, especially if the circumstances around us today are difficult. But, we always have a reason to live with hope because of God’s promises to His children. He promises a future restoration--He will make everything right some day. He also promises eternal life--we will live with Him forever! The future is secure. Jesus proved it by defeating death. We can live with hope!

And, trust me on this, hope is invigorating. It is electrifying. It is powerful! When we live with hope, it is shared with others. And, like a spark, the fire of hope spreads and the future actually begins to look brighter and brighter to those around you. For example, think of the Gliddles in the Yonders. Just knowing that Lightgliders are out there gives them hope that their future will be bright. This is the power of hope.

I try to wake up each day with hope--with the expectation that the best is yet to come. And, because of Jesus, I know this is true. I'm telling you, living with hope makes a difference!

Restoration

September 21, 2020

SEPTEMBER 21 - SEPTEMBER 27

RESTORATION

Hey Lightgliders!

We’ve been looking at the Far Greater Story this summer. We’ve learned about Creation, Rebellion, and Redemption. Now it’s time for the final act--Restoration! Every good story has a BIG ending. Well, the Far Greater Story has the BIGGEST ending that actually leads to a new beginning. This is the one part of the Far Greater Story that we have yet to experience fully. It will happen some time in the future, and we can look forward to it with great anticipation!

To restore something means to bring it back to its original condition. This is what God will do with our broken world when Jesus comes back. God has redeemed His children through Jesus, but we still experience the consequences of sin and rebellion in our world today. Jesus has promised us that He will return and make right all that has gone wrong. This is what “Restoration” is all about. Scripture tells us that there will be no more pain, or crying, or suffering for those who have placed their faith in Jesus.

Until that day comes, we can work to restore the world around us in small ways. Every word of truth that we speak and every act of love that we do in His name points to this future restoration. When we shine light in the darkness, we are a signpost of what is to come.

Courage

September 14, 2020

SEPTEMBER 14 - SEPTEMBER 20

COURAGE

Hey Lightgliders!

How is your new school year going? We have been discussing The Far Greater Story of God’s love for us in recent weeks. We are currently learning about redemption and how God bought back our lives with the blood of Jesus. As we understand this truth, we can live with great confidence in God’s never ending love.

And, when we are confident, then we can show courage!  To be courageous is to be brave. To take risks. To initiate. To try new things. To do hard things. To not be afraid of failing. We can be courageous because our confidence comes from God’s love for us, and not from anything else!

As Lightgliders, we will not shrink back from difficulties or danger. We will not run away from opportunities to help those in need.

Be courageous today, Lightgliders! Remember that you are never alone. Nothing can separate you from God’s love.

Glide On!

Spotlights #6

September 12, 2020
Click the player above to listen to this Gliddle Transmission!

There are so many Lightgliders shining brightly every week! We want to highlight some of the amazing things YOU are doing!! Congratulations, Seth Epic Walker and Aurora Exuberant Victory: You are in the Spotlight and will receive a Shining Spotlight Glider and RES Head to use this week!

Like a light, we’re made to shine!

Seth Epic Walker is part of a Lightglider family! He has encouraged other Lightgliders to join in with his sister’s (Rose Ninja Adventurer) Bible studies inside the Academy! He also participates and has wonderful conversations with Lightgliders during these studies.

Aurora Exuberant Victory started a new Bible club as well! She’s inviting her friends to join her at a Sunday School gathering every Sunday afternoon. Their first topic was loyalty! Aurora even celebrated her birthday in the Academy with friends last week! Happy birthday and way to go, Aurora!

Another thing you might start noticing in Lightglider Academy are friends gliding around with GREEN NAME PLATES!! These are our new Lightglider Ambassadors! We’re so excited to launch this new program as a way to reward YOU for setting a good example and showing excellent behavior in the game!

Ambassadors are given special privileges and items in the game so other players will know that they are a role model. Ambassadors attend community events in the Academy, interact positively with our in-game moderators, and are helpful to others who are new to the game. Ambassadors are expected to continue to interact positively with others, helping make our online community a safe place to have fun and learn about God. This is a great honor and responsibility! Keep your eyes out for Lightglider Ambassadors inside the Academy!

Keep shining in all you do in Lightglider Academy -- join the community events, show respect to other Lightgliders, create amazing postcards, rescue Gliddles, restore blight, lead other Lightgliders in a game you made up, or just be a positive influence to others. There are lots of ways to shine!
