Confidence

SEPTEMBER 7 - SEPTEMBER 13

CONFIDENCE

Hey Gliders!

If we understand Redemption, which was last week’s theme, we will grow in Confidence, which is this week’s theme. Confidence is one of the five values of a Lightglider. It comes from a strong belief that you are both fully known AND fully loved. We can live with confidence because of the cross! At the cross, Jesus had to die because of our sin. At the cross, Jesus was glad to die because of God’s love for us. You see, friends, God created us and knows everything about us, both the good and the bad. We cannot hide our sin or our beauty from God. At the cross, Jesus paid the penalty for our sin. It is the proof that God knows us fully and loves us radically.

Do you realize what this means? It means that we never have to question our value, no matter what anyone says or thinks about us. We are greatly loved by the Creator of the universe!

Never forget how valuable you are. Never lose your confidence in God’s love for you. If you do, remember what happened at the cross. It is the ultimate reminder that our confidence does not come from our abilities, our friends, or our behaviors. These things are not dependable. No, our confidence comes from God's love. And His love is never changing.

When we live confidently in His love, we will walk with the courage and boldness necessary to shine in dark places, to stand up for what is right, and to repent when we make mistakes.

Redemption

August 31, 2020

AUGUST 31 - SEPTEMBER 6

REDEMPTION

Hey Lightglider!

Continuing in The Far Greater Story, we have come to its climax, known as Redemption. To redeem something means to buy it back. Remember that God created everything and called it good. This is why there is dignity in the world and within everyone in it. We have rebelled against God’s standard of goodness. This is called sin. And, because of our sin, we are separated from God. Without the next part of the story, we are left without hope.

But God, in His goodness, didn’t leave us hopeless! He sent His Son Jesus to redeem us. When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the penalty for our sin. He bought us back! He made a way for us to be restored to God and to live with Him forever! This is what it means to be redeemed. This is the heart of The Far Greater Story and the proof that God loves us.

Forgiveness

August 24, 2020

AUGUST 24 - AUGUST 30

Forgiveness

Hey Lightglider!

We have been learning about The Far Greater Story in recent weeks. All of Lightgliders seeks to point to this all-important story. We talked about how God is good and has created all things good. However, we have rebelled against Him and His standard for goodness. This is called sin. It causes destruction and separates us from God. It is the reason the world has so many problems. Once we recognize that we have rebelled against God, we have the opportunity to be repentant. To repent means to turn away from sin and turn to God, and it requires humility. The Bible tells us to repent of our sins so that they may be wiped away. When God wipes away our sin, that is an act that we call forgiveness. God forgives us of our sin and puts us in a right relationship with Him. With God’s forgiveness, we are free from the penalty of our sin. And when we understand that God is willing to forgive us even when we don’t deserve it, we can forgive others as well!

Humility

August 17, 2020

AUGUST 17 - AUGUST 23

Humility

Hey Lightgliders!

This week we are discussing the Lightglider value of humility. We learned last week about Rebellion, the second “chapter” of a biblical worldview. Even though God has uniquely created each of us to shine like stars in the universe, we have rebelled against His commands to love Him and love others. The sin and selfishness that began in the Garden of Eden continues today in our hearts and causes division, brokenness, and strife.

To acknowledge our sin and rebellion against God requires humility. To live with humility means to view yourself in light of God’s goodness and perfection. When we do this, we realize how far short we fall and how much we need Him. Therefore, only through humility will we live in dependence upon God’s love.

Only with humble hearts can we take our focus off ourselves, acknowledge God’s greatness, and truly be able to focus on the needs of others.

Rebellion

August 10, 2020

AUGUST 10 - AUGUST 16

Rebellion

Hey Lightglider!

We’ve just spent three weeks learning about Creation. To understand Creation is to understand that God created everything, and that includes you and me! And because He created us in His image, our lives have purpose and tremendous value. This is the first part of the Far Greater Story of God’s love for us revealed in the Bible.

The second part of the story is called Rebellion. A rebellion is an open resistance to an authority. As our Creator, God is our authority. To rebel against Him is to disobey His commands. This is called “sin.” It happens every time we do not live up to God’s standard of goodness and love. Whether we sin on purpose or by accident, we are rebelling against the way God has commanded us to live. We are violating our purpose. This happens a lot by you and by everyone else. We all have rebelled against God and His goodness. And the Bible tells us that the penalty of our rebellion is death.

This is why we need to be rescued. This is why we need a Savior. The penalty for our rebellion needs to be paid. Our sin needs to be forgiven. Until we understand this, the story of Jesus will never make any sense to us.

Pray this week for help to recognize how you have sinned and for the courage to confess it to God.

Creative & Inspired

August 3, 2020

AUGUST 3 - AUGUST 9

Creative & Inspired

Hey Lightglider!

The last two weeks we have learned that God is our Creator.  Because of this, we have tremendous purpose. We can live with the knowledge that our lives matter because they do! If God took the time to make you, then you are extremely valuable. We also learned that God created us in His image. Because you are made in the image of a powerful, good, and creative God, you have the power to create good things. What good things are you inspired to create today?

Think of ways to use your unique gifts to put a smile on other people’s faces. Dream of ways to make an impact. Live with passion. Pursue beauty. Use your imagination. Do everything you do with excellence.

If you go into the Academy this week, use creativity to design an awesome treehouse. Use imagination to encourage with every postcard you send out. Inspire others to play games together.

Be creative and inspired today. In doing so, you will reflect your Creator.

Purpose

July 27, 2020

JULY 27 - AUGUST 2

Purpose

Hey Lightglider!

This we’re talking about the Lightglider value of purpose. Purpose is one of the five core values of a Lightglider. To live with purpose means to live every day with the belief that your life matters. But how do we know this is true, especially when we don’t feel it from others or from the world around us? This belief comes from the truth that God made us in His image. Because of this, our lives have worth and dignity that no one can take away. Your life matters! God is good, and God made you in His image to do good things. We have the opportunity each day to do the good things that God had in mind when He created us.

In Lightglider Academy, we rescue Gliddles, restore the land, and seek to respect those around us. Look around you today. What good things could you do to make an impact in your home and in your community? You were uniquely created to make an impact in a way that only you can. As you grow in your relationship with the Creator, you will learn all the ways that this is true!

Creation

July 20, 2020

JULY 20 - JULY 26

Creation

Hey Lightglider!

Are you excited about the Backyard BBQ next week in Lightglider Academy? I hope to see you there!

Did you know that the Bible begins by telling us that God is the Creator. The very first verse of Genesis tells us this! He created the world and everything in it. This includes you and me! And Genesis 1:27 tells us that God created us in His image. You were made in the image of a good, holy, and loving God.

Do you realize what this means???? It means that your life matters! It means that your life is valuable! It means that you are capable of extraordinary things!

Because you bear God’s image, you are worthy of respect. And this is true of everyone you meet! That’s why our #1 goal of a Lightglider is respect -- respect for ourselves and respect for others. We seek to do this because when you respect yourself and you respect others, you are honoring the One in whose image we were created.

Far Greater Story

July 13, 2020

JULY 13 - JULY 19

Far Greater Story

Hey Lightglider!

There are three goals of a Lightglider -- respect, rescue, and restore. We seek to RESPECT everyone in Lightglider Academy and beyond. We go on missions to RESCUE the Gliddles from the clutches of the Machines. And we clear the blight to RESTORE the land to its original beauty, purpose, and goodness. Did you know that these goals point to a far greater story?

The Bible reveals God as the ultimate respecter, rescuer, and restorer! He respects us as His image-bearers by giving us dignity and purpose. He rescues us from the grip of our sin and selfishness through the death and resurrection of Jesus. And He promises to restore our broken world one day, so that we may live forever with Him. This is the far greater story of God’s love for us! Amazing!

Made to Shine

July 6, 2020

JULY 6 - JULY 12

Made to Shine

Hey Lightglider!

We’re so glad you’re here! We - the other Lightglider leaders and me - want you to always remember that you were MADE TO SHINE!

God created you uniquely. No one has your exact interests, talents, and personality. To shine means to love God and to love others in a way that only you can. With all the darkness in the world, that can feel like a big responsibility. But like a candle in a dark tunnel, even the smallest light can be blinding. If you’ve been to Machine Bunker in the Yonders, you know what I mean!

Jesus is the true light of the world. With His love and light, we will shine like stars in the heavens and make an impact on the world. Let’s reflect Him everywhere we go this summer!

JUNE 29 - JULY 5

Lightgliders

Hey Lightgliders!

It’s that time of year when we remind each other what it means to be a Lightglider. Put simply, Lightgliders are those of us who know with all our heart that we were made to shine! We were created to love God and love others.

Yes, you get to do cool things as a Lightglider. We rescue Gliddles, battle Machines, clear blight, and connect with others in the Academy. Each of these is a purposeful adventure. But, the most purposeful adventure is getting to know the Far Greater Story, the story of God’s love for you found in the Bible. When you understand how much God loves you and how He uniquely created you to impact the world, you will shine. Every time you share God’s love with others through your words or actions, you are being a Lightglider!

Responsibility

June 22, 2020

JUNE 22 - JUNE 28

Responsibility

Hey Lightglider!

This week’s Gliddle Principle is RESPONSIBILITY. That is a big word that can be carried out in lots of small ways. To be responsible means that we are trustworthy in our actions and our words. Therefore, we do the very best we can in everything that we do and with everything we have. This includes our schoolwork, homework, friendships, extracurricular activities, and even the time in our day. It starts with the little things like cleaning up after yourself, but it can lead to big things like overseeing Lightglider missions to the Yonders or activities at your school or church. In what ways do you show yourself to be a responsible person? I try to show it through my work in the Innovation Lab. I seek to do the best that I can with what I have been given. I know that being responsible in the little things leads to greater responsibilities to come. Please remember this!

JUNE 15 - JUNE 21

Kindness

Hey Lightglider!

This week we’re talking about KINDNESS. Well, we don’t just want to talk about it. We want to show it! To be kind means to be friendly, generous, and considerate. Our theme verse this week is Colossians 3:12 (NLT): “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”

This verse tells us to clothe ourselves with lots of different character qualities. Have you ever thought about that? You can choose to put qualities like kindness on like you put on your clothes in the morning. Just like we pick out which shirt or pair of shoes we are going to wear, we can choose to be kind, humble, gentle, and patient throughout our day. Clothing ourselves with kindness is a powerful way to show God’s character to the world around us. The Bible also tells us in Romans 2:4 that God’s kindness is what leads us to Him in the first place. So pick up kindness and put it on like a jacket. Wear it everywhere you go!
